Iron City Urban Dwellings

Quoting Aldo Van Eyck’s Team 10 Primer: “The transition must be articulated by means of defined in-between places which induce simultaneous awareness of what is significant on either side. An in-between place in this sense provides the common ground where conflicting polarities can again become twin-phenomena.”

Architecture Overview

This design for an urban dwelling focuses on utilizing the section as a vehicle to create spatial relationships that foster connection both horizontally and vertically, while the sectional transparency allows for an in-between threshold, in which the public and the private of the house coexist in close juxtaposition, the resulting overlapping zones blur the boundaries between them.

Sleeping Pods

The pods are designed as miniature communities that are embedded within the larger context of the hostel. The architecture consists of layers of communities and interactions from the perspective of an individual.
